The Executive Director is responsible for the leadership and management of the King Arts Complex. This position reports to and works in partnership with the Board of Directors and is responsible for developing and managing the organization’s budget and supervising the paid staff.

I. Roles

A. Program Development and Delivery

• Ensures that the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress.
• Provides leadership in developing program and organizational plans with the board of directors and staff.
• Ensures appropriate evaluation of how well goals and objectives have been made.
• Demonstrates quality of analysis and judgment in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Fashions an effective marketing and public relations plan.

B. Administration and Human Resources Management

• Divides and assigns work effectively, delegating appropriate levels of freedom and authority.
• Establishes and makes use of an effective management team.
• Ensures that job descriptions are developed and that regular performance evaluations are held and documented.
• Ensures compliance with personnel policies and state and federal regulations on workplaces and employment.
• Maintains an environment which attracts, retains, develops and motivates a diverse staff of top-quality people.
• Ensures that policies and procedures are in place to maximize volunteer involvement .
• Oversees and directs the maintenance and upkeep of facilities.

C. Community Relations

• Serves as an effective spokesperson for the organization; represents mission and programs of the organization to corporate, government and non–profit organizations and the general public.
• Establishes sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.

D. Financial Management and Ethical Business Practices

• Ensures adequate control and accounting of all funds, including developing and maintaining sound financial practices.
• Works with the staff, finance committee, and board in preparing a budget; sees that the organization operates within budget guidelines.
• Maintains official records and documents, and ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations and reporting requirements (such as annual information returns, payroll withholding and reporting, etc).
• Assures that funds are disbursed in accordance with contract requirements and donor designations.
• Fosters adherence to business practices based on honesty, integrity fairness and respect.

E. Revenue Development

• Establishes a comprehensive multi- year revenue development plan for the organization.
• Develops realistically ambitious fundraising goals in each of the financial plan categories.
• Successfully involves Board, staff, volunteers and community in revenue development.
• Establishes positive relationships with government, foundation, corporate funders and individual donors.

F. Relationship with Board of Directors

• Works effectively with the Board and Executive Committee
• Works with the Board to articulate a compelling vision for the organization.
• Provides appropriate, adequate, and timely information to the board to aid in its decision making process.
• Provides for staff support to board committees.
• Keeps the Board informed on critical matters that effect the overall condition of the organization.

II. Skills

A. Leadership and Management

• Ability to differentiate between leadership and management skills and demonstrate both.

• Working knowledge of fiscal management, including fund accounting and budgeting.
• Ability to work within a budget, accommodate budgetary adjustments efficiently.

C. Planning and Program Management

• Ability to develop, execute and evaluate short and long term plans.
• Capable of devising a comprehensive planning strategy involving appropriate board, staff and committee people.
• Ability to determine the needs and interest of various audiences and to create programs that respond to them and support the mission
• Shows creativity and initiative in creating new programs.
• Demonstrates quality of analysis and judgment in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Maintains a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field.
• Develops measurements that evaluate the impact of programs and services.

III. Education and Experience

• Minimum of five years’ experience in senior management position in nonprofit, public sector or business institutions with preference for arts related organization desired.
• Minimum of five years of managerial experience supervising 10 employees or more desired.
• Advanced degree in the Visual or Performing Arts or Arts Education, Non Profit Management, Public Administration or Business desired.
• Membership and participation in relevant professional associations.

IV. Additional Executive Director Position Information

• Salary Range: $80-$100K
• This is a full-time employee position with competitive benefits coverage. Placement within the range will be commensurate with candidate's qualifications and current salary.
